January is National Dog Training month! To honor this, be in tip top shape this month when it comes to doggy discipline. And our way of honoring it will be doing a feature on Cesar Millan, a fairly famous dog trainer who became well-known from his show, The Dog Whisperer. Many of his tactics have worked tremendously well on my dog.
While you would think that Millan’s tremendous dog skills must have been taught to him by someone very skilled, he actually self-taught himself. Millan focuses primarly on rehabiliting aggressive dogs, which is something extremely admirable that teaches people that “bad” dogs aren’t actually “bad”, they just need to be taught how to behave, because they don’t know any better. Millan has had some very famous clients, his very first client being Jada Pinkett Smith. He focuses heavily on using vocal marks (like tsch and tsst), gestures and body language to communicate. This type of communication works extremely well with dogs because they respond to it better than speech. Your energy is the main focus!
